Facebook entrances "Groups for Schools" including 25MB file-sharing facility

Today Facebook unveiled its collaborative campus tool called "Groups for Schools". This exciting new feature lets the students of colleges and universities to create groups for any significant entity including dorms, classes, and student organizations but Facebook limited the access to those having corresponding .edu addresses only!

Facebook announced that the theme of the project is

"to make it even easier to share lecture notes, sports schedules, or class assignments".

For that, they also presented small file-sharing capabilities (probably by using file sharing services of Facebook’s acquired Drop.io) as part of their project. Users can access downloads directly through file notifications which happen to be in their newsfeed.

The file size is limited to 25MB and uploading of files with .exe extension is not allowed so as to thwart from malicious programs’ spreading along with a strong monitoring policy laid down to prevent from copyright infringements. It seems that by taking these measures, Facebook is protecting itself from any king of lawsuit.

This new feature by Facebook is currently available in United States only. However, it will be available to other parts of the world soon!
