Samsung introduces world's thinnest optical drive

Samsung has recently publicized a new external optical drive claiming as the world’s thinnest DVD writer at only 14mm in height since the drive is 18% thinner and 8% lighter than traditional DVD writers. This smart device has been manufactured to supplement Intel’s Ultrabooks, which lack an optical drive.
The slim external DVD writer SE-218BB employs the Smart Power Technology specially designed by Samsung, letting it to connect through its single USB port
to power up the drive and offer AV connectivity. It is compatible with nearly all the major OSs, including Windows 7 and Macintosh and supposed to support Windows 8 as well in future. The drive is capable of supporting Android 3.1(Honeycomb) or later tablets, in addition to Ultrabook usage.
The optical drive uses a conventional technology like buffer under-run prevention that’s been around for years. This technology prevents from buffer under-run errors which came across, when there is an interruption in the data flow during burning of a CD or DVD that requires a constant stream of data, by storing the incoming data into a buffer.
The drive is capable of varying read and write speeds depending on the type of media used: 24X CD-ROM, 24X CD-RW, 8X DVD±R recording, 5X DVD-RAM recording, 6X DVD+R Dual Layer recording, 6X DVD-R Dual Layer recording, 8X DVD+RW recording and 6X DVD-RW recording.
Samsung further climaxes that this drive is eco-friendly as it uses lead-free bonding that eliminates harmful materials.
This extremely useful device is available at only $59.99.
